Are you interested in raising hogs? Brandon Bouthillette from Balckbird Farm will talk about their pasture-based hog operation and the lessons they have learned over the years. Blackbird Farm sells their pasture raised pork to some of the top restaurants and markets in southern New England, as well as direct to the public. Brandon will discuss how to get started with hogs and what you need to consider, including: housing, handling, feed requirements, breed selection, fencing, winter versus summer requirements, keeping breeding sows versus buying feeder pigs, health care considerations, and more.

This is part of a free seminar series presented by The Livestock Institute of Southern New England and hosted at Bristol County Agricultural High School.
