Building the Future of Local Livestock Farming

The Livestock Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to addressing issues facing livestock farmers through educational programming and infrastructure improvements.

What we do

Humane Meat Processing

Ethical, low-stress handling and USDA-inspected processing that ensures quality, safety, and respect for every animal.

Farmer Training & Events

Hands-on trainings, seminars, and community events that help farmers build skills, share knowledge, and strengthen their operations.

Food System Advocacy

We work with partners, policymakers, and community members to strengthen local food systems across New England.

Empowering Farmers. Feeding communities.

Local livestock farmers face serious challenges, including limited access to processing, evolving regulations, the need for sustainable practices, and a lack of consistent support. Without strong infrastructure and a reliable network, many farms risk burnout or closing altogether.

TLI Exists to Help Farmers Thrive

As a nonprofit, we provide the training, tools, and infrastructure producers need to succeed, from our USDA-inspected facility, Meatworks, to hands-on workshops and community events. We support farmers at every stage, from pasture to plate.

We’ve Walked This Path, Too

Founded by farmers, for farmers, The Livestock Institute understands the hurdles of raising animals locally. We’re not just an organization—we’re your partner in building a sustainable future for livestock agriculture in Southern New England.

For Farmers

Raising livestock is hard enough—processing and distribution shouldn’t be. Whether you’re just starting out or expanding your reach, our facility, educational offerings, and peer network are here for you.

For the Community

Making good food choices shouldn’t be complicated. When you shop at Meatworks, you’re choosing meat that’s local, humane, and transparently sourced. We make it easy—and meaningful—to eat well and do good.

For Partners

We help restaurants, retailers, and institutions source premium meat from trusted New England farms. Through our nonprofit processing facility, we provide consistent, custom-cut wholesale products.
